The demise of Net Neutrality

In a blog post titled "One Step Closer to a Closed Internet", Denelle Dixon-Thayer (Chief Legal and Business Officer at Mozilla) discusses the unfortunate turn of events regarding Net Neutrality and how its death will have serious negative repercussions to consumers and the internet as a whole.

What is "Net Neutrality"? The short of it is that internet service providers (ISPs, the company that provides you your internet connection such as your phone company providing you DSL, or the cable company) should not be allow to treat internet traffic differently based upon the source or type of content. This ensures a fair, impartial, level playing field where money and monopolies don't get to skew your experience and lock out the small startups. It effectively prevents bias and discrimination of how quickly content is delivered to you. A more in-depth description and summary of things can also be found at the SaveTheInternet website.
