So the word from Microsoft is that the free Windows 10 upgrade period will expire on July 29th of this year. After that, in order to get Windows 10 consumers will either need to pay retail for the upgrade ($119) or purchase a new computer with Windows 10 pre-installed.
I have continued to give my clients the following advice: If you're on Windows 7 currently, there's no pressing need to upgrade, as Windows 7 is good until 2020. In fact, given the radical changes Microsoft has done with the way you use Windows 10, you might be happier not upgrading. Anyone with Vista or Windows XP however should be looking at upgrading ASAP... however these users will likely want a new computer, versus installing Windows 10 on their existing computers. As frustrating as Windows 10 is, it is a considerable improvement over Windows 8, so I do advise that Windows 8 users upgrade to Windows 10.
Although Microsoft makes the upgrade process seemingly easy, it doesn't take care of all the details you would actually want to do. Hardware drivers from your computer manufacturer might be necessary for best performance (and least issues), which is something that needs to be done manually after you upgrade. Also, due to the additional demands of a newer operating system, it might be a good time to add some additional memory (RAM) to your computer to compensate. These are all things I can assist you with, so if you're looking to upgrade to Windows 10 please contact me first so we can put together a gameplan.
